Miss Janine Elson - Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist

Janine Elson has recently taken over as the Lead Consultant. She has been an NHS consultant and an RCOG accredited subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology since 2004.

Janine undertook her initial medical training at Leicester University and Leicester Royal Infirmary and her subspecialty training at St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester. She is known internationally for her research into early pregnancy failure, endocrinology and gynaecological ultrasound.

Mr Allan Davidson - Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist

Allan Davidson has been a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Leicester Royal Infirmary since 1980; he has a long-standing interest in the treatment of infertile couples

Mr T Girish - Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist

Girish has recently taken over as the Locum Consultant Gynaecologist with Special Interest in Reproductive Medicine.

Girish undertook his training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and Leicester Royal Infirmary since 1999. His special interest area includes Reproductive Medicine, Gynaecological ultrasound and Laparoscopic Surgery.

Jane Blower - Consultant Embryologist

Jane Blower is the consultant embryologist and the laboratory manager. Jane is also the HFEA Person Responsible. She has been an embryologist for 18 years and has worked at the Leicester Fertility Centre since 1989 when the clinic opened. She is responsible for quality management in the centre and was the first embryologist in the UK to complete the master's degree in Assisted Reproductive Technologies at the University of Nottingham

Mo Thomas - Unit Manager/Counsellor

Mo has worked at the Leicester Fertility Centre since 1989. Mo is a qualified counsellor with a specialist interest in infertility.

Mo is also a registered nurse with a wealth of experience; she spent 7 years as a senior sister within the NHS

As unit manager Mo is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the unit, Mo has worked as a counsellor with the Leicester Fertility Centre since 1989, offering counselling in all aspects of assisted reproduction. Apart from support and therapeutic counselling, she also works with couples and specialises in person centred counselling.

Marian Williams - Senior Infertility Nurse Specialist

Marian Williams, the Senior Infertility Nurse Specialist, has worked as part of the nursing team at the Leicester Fertility Centre since 1992 and is responsible for all aspects of nursing activity. She is particularly keen to ensure that the service we provide is efficient and professional, and that the staff are friendly and approachable. Marian has a background in both gynaecology and general nursing since 1979.

Cathy Clarkson - Infertility nurse specialist

Cathy Clarkson joined us as a fertility nurse specialist in 2003. Cathy has over 20 years experience in gynaecology nursing, when she was involved in the general infertility clinic as a clinical nurse specialist. Cathy is very experienced in explaining and planning treatments to patients.

Caroline Busby - Infertility nurse specialist

Caroline Busby joined us as a fertility nurse specialist in 2005. Caroline's background is in gynaecology nursing, and she brings a unique perspective to the team following her experience working as an infertility nurse specialist in the private sector, as well as having undertaken a period of work in the Middle East.

Anna Barton - Infertility nurse

Anna Barton joined the Leicester Fertility Centre in early 2006. Following her qualification in 2004 Anna worked in Gastroenterology for the UHL Trust. Anna is interested in all aspects of Assisted Reproduction and particularly enjoys patient contact and the quality of care able to be given in the Leicester Fertility Centre.

Sandra Sharp, Hazel Brooks, Monique Johnson- Healthcare Assistants

During your visit to the centre you will meet Sandra, Hazel and Monique who are our health care assistants. Sandra joined the team in 2002, Hazel in 2004 and Monique joined us in early 2006. All three have an extensive background in nursing within the NHS Trust.

Their roles in the clinic are to assist and support the medical and nursing teams. They also look after patients after theatre, and they keep everyone supplied with tea and coffee.

Amy Sharpe - Embryologist

Amy Sharpe joined the Leicester Fertility Centre in 2003 as a trainee embryologist, after completing her degree in anatomy in Glasgow. In November 2005 she was awarded her Certificate in Clinical Embryology and her ICSI licence. Amy has a special interest in male infertility and ICSI and particularly enjoys patient contact. Amy is responsible for co-ordination of our laboratory databases.

Emma Harmer - Embryologist

Emma Harmer joined the Leicester Fertility Centre in 2003 as a trainee embryologist, after completing her degree in Natural Sciences in Cambridge. In November 2005 she was awarded her Certificate in Clinical Embryology and her ICSI licence. Emma has a particular interest in cryopreservation and the preservation of fertility in patients undergoing oncology treatment, and is responsible for the scientific co-ordination of our donor embryo programme.

Charlene Booth - Trainee Embryologist

Charlene Booth recently joined the team as a trainee embryologist in September 2006, after completing her degree at Leicester University in Medical biochemistry. Charlene is half way though her Clinical Embryology Certificate, hoping to complete it by October 2008 and has a particular interest in donor recruitment and QC testing.

Sophie Jaques - Trainee Embryologist

Sophie joined the team as a trainee embryologist in April 2008, after completing her degree at the University of Birmingham in Biological Science. Sophie is starting her certificate in clinical embryology, hoping to complete it by April 2010. Sophie has a special interest in genetics.

Amanda Derry - Andrologist

Amanda Derry joined the Leicester Fertility Centre in 2005. Amanda is responsible for running the Regional Andrology service and the donor sperm bank. Amanda brings with her a great deal of experience from her previous role working in Pathology for 16 years; during this time Amanda developed a special interest in bacterial growth in semen and its relevance to infertility as well as Health and Safety and is now the H&S representative for the department.

Lyn Hilton-Counsellor

Lyn joined the team in May 2007 and brings with her a wealth of counselling experience following her previous employment within the local university system.Lyn brings with her a vast experience of counselling over a wide range of issues. Lyn prefers to use the person centred approach to counselling, and is able to offer implications counselling as well as long term therapy.

Jodie Pearson - Senior administrator and PA

Jodie Pearson is the PA and senior administrator, and has worked at the clinic since early 2005. Before joining the Leicester Fertility Centre Jodie has worked in the Trust as an administrator. Jodie liaises mostly with private patients, and is responsible for their organising their appointments and invoices, including the administration of the cryopreservation service.

Helen Copson - Administrator

Helen Copson is one of the administrators for the Leicester Fertility Centre. Since Helen combines this with her role as one of the receptionists, she is likely to be your first contact with us. Helen joined the team in 2005 after having previously worked within the UHL Trust. Helen transferred to the Leicester Fertility Centre as she was predominantly interested in being able to follow patients throughout their treatment.

Debra Gent - Administrator

Debra Gent is a receptionist and administrator, and joined us in 2005 with an extensive background in a variety of commercial administrative roles. Following a career break Debra transferred to the healthcare field. Debra will be one of your first contacts at the clinic. Debra has excellent communication skills, which she employs whilst staffing the reception desk; booking patient appointments and answering patients telephone queries.

Donna Matthews - Administrator

Donna Mathews joined the team in December 2006 as one of our administrators. Donna has vast experience in the customer service industry and is our key receptionist and will probably be one of the first people you meet. She is extremely capable and enthusiastic, providing a warm welcome for patients and visitors..
