Meet the Leicester Fertility Team

Medical staff practising at the Leicester Fertility Centre include Miss Janine Elson Medical Director (F.R.C.O.G), Mr T Girish (M.R.C.O.G) and Mr Tarek Gelbaya (F.R.C.O.G).

In order to be able to offer our assisted conception services, we have assembled a dedicated and expert team. A full-time consultant embryologist with the assistance of the embryology team supports the consultant gynaecologists.

Our nursing and counselling staff are fully trained in the provision of infertility services and are able to offer care and support throughout the period of treatment.

A dedicated Andrologist manages the Andrology service, including the regional semen analysis service and the donor cryopreservation service.

Mr Tarek Gelbaya - Consultant Gynaecologist and Subspecialist
in Reproductive Medicine and surgery

Tarek Gelbaya undertook his initial medical training in Cairo and obtained an MD degree in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2003.

He is a fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Tarek has completed his specialty training in the North West region and his subspecialty training at Saint Mary’s Hospital, Manchester. He published in a variety of highly recognised international journals and presented at many national and international conferences.

Mr Gelbaya has a special interest in reproductive surgery, implantation failure and endometriosis.

Neelam Potdar is a Subspecialist trainee in Reproductive Medicine & Surgery and Clinical Lecturer at the University of Leicester. She is accredited with qualifications of MS, MD and MRCOG.

Her initial training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology was in India and she speaks English, Hindi fluently and understands Gujarati.

Neelam has special interest in Assisted reproduction, Fertility preservation, Recurrent implantation failure, Recurrent pregnancy loss and Reproductive surgery. Additionally, she has keen interest in research, especially life style factors affecting implantation and pregnancy

Monique Johnson - Healthcare Assistant

Monique Johnson joined the team in 2006 after 18 years experience of gynaecology. Her roles in the clinic are to assist the medical team during egg collections and embryo transfers, providing support to patients during and after theatre procedures.

She is skilled at ultrasound scanning during embryo transfers and trained at venepuncture.

Monique also co-ordinates stock control within the unit and is a valued member of the team.

Linda Best - Counsellor

Linda has been qualified as a Counsellor for 13 years. She has extensive experience in private practice, and Primary Care. She has worked with individuals, couples and groups. She lives in Nottinghamshire.

In her spare time she is a qualified Natural Horse Trainer, and helps horses with people problems.

Helen Copson is the senior administrator/ PA at the Leicester Fertility Centre. She joined the team in 2005 after having previously worked within the UHL Trust.

Her main responsibilities include supervising other members of the administration team and managing & monitoring the finances of the centre.  She also works closely with the instituto Bernabeu, Alicante, on our international egg donation programme.

Debra Gent - Administrator

Debra Gent is an administrator, and joined us in 2005 with an extensive background in a variety of commercial administrative roles. Following a career break Debra transferred to the healthcare field.

Debra is responsible for the typing of all ACU clinic letters but also arranges appointments and answers patients telephone queries

Donna Matthews - Administrator

Donna Matthews joined the team in December 2006 as one of our administrators. She has previously worked on reception and now is the first point of call for all telephone enquiries. Donna uses her excellent communication skills and knowledge to assist patients. She is extremely capable and enthusiastic, providing a warm welcome for patients and visitors.
