Ovarian Stimulation
Usually in a natural cycle just a single egg is usually produced, but IVFICSI is more successful if there are more eggs, this should result in a greater choice of embryos for replacement.
To achieve this drugs (gonadotrophins) are given by injection to stimulate more follicles (fluid filled spaces in the ovary which contain an egg) to produce eggs. The drugs are tailored to each patients needs.
If you are planned for a long cycle, down-regulation is carried out before ovarian stimulation to prevent premature ovulation and to aid cycle management. This requires daily injections.
If you are planned for a short cycle of treatment, you may not start your down-regulation injections until you commence your stimulation injections.
