The ACU has its own entrance on the corner of the hospital block close to the main road. Car parking is available in the Havelock Street Car Park (see map), above the "Living Well" gym on the Welford Road, the Granby Hall car park site and Phoenix Theatre car park.
On entering the ACU there is a small pleasant waiting area next to the reception desk and office and main consulting room. It is here that couples will have their first contact with us.
There is a large clinical treatment room where we carry out all ultrasound guided egg retrievals and embryo transfers during IVF procedures. This room leads directly into our very fully equipped purpose built embryology laboratory. There is a recovery room for patients who have had egg retrieval procedures performed.
Other treatments are carried out in a smaller treatment room where the day-to-day scanning is also performed.
The ACU has a small counselling room.
There are facilities for men to produce sperm samples on the premises.
Within the next four years, with the re-organisation of the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, it is planned that through the Pathway Project, the ACU at the LRI will move to new state-of the-art purpose-built premises at the Leicester General Hospital site. This unit will be three times bigger than the current LRI ACU.
Extended facilities
The Leicester Fertility Centre will be undergoing some changes during 2006; the UHL Trust is very supportive of the work undertaken by the centre and plans to extend the facilities offered to include an extended theatre and laboratory suite, with additional theatre recovery rooms, consulting and treatment rooms.
