Andrology Service

The regional Andrology service includes semen analysis, post vasectomy analysis, semen assessment prior to treatment, sperm banking prior to chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery and pre-vasectomy sperm storage.

The service is based at the Leicester Fertility Centre and processes in excess of 3000 samples a year.

Semen analysis

The Regional Andrology service carries out all the semen analyses within Leicestershire, the service is available Monday to Friday, but not Bank holidays, the results are reported back to the referring GP or Consultant.

Post-vasectomy Screening

The regional Andrology service provides screening of semen samples post vasectomy to check the success of the procedure. Samples are examined for the presence or absence of sperm.

Pre-vasectomy storage

A vasectomy is a form of contraception for a man which is not designed to be reversible. However some patients undergoing a vasectomy may wish to have sperm frozen prior to the procedure for future use.

Two samples are usually collected and stored. Consent forms are completed for storage and use, and blood screening tests for HIV, Hepatitis B and C are also carried out.

Sperm freezing pre treatment

If you are concerned that you may not be able to produce a sample on the day of treatment then we can offer to freeze a sample for you prior to your treatment.
